The Giant of Gilfarch Fargod

The Giant of Gilfarch Fargod

We have recently celebrated Welsh week. Year 2 pupils loved learning and performing two Welsh songs during our schools eisteddfod. We also wrote poems about St. David and completed St. David themed numeracy challenges. We even got our aprons on and made some delicious Welsh cakes!
Inspired by such a successful Welsh week we have just began our new topic based around the Welsh folk tale ‘The Giant of Gilfarch Fargod’. The children have plotted Welsh towns on a map and described the giant using our Welsh sentence patterns. We are planning to use this text as a stimulus to teach our next text type, discussion texts.
We are now using Hwb to record our daily check in results. The children use the programme to let us know how they are feeling each morning.
We thoroughly enjoyed World book day. Pupils came into school dressed in wonderful costumes and armed with their favourite books. During the day we read their stories and become illustrators designing our own front cover for the story ‘The Giant of Gilafach Fargod’ .
