Welsh Week

Welsh Week

The children were provided with lots of opportunities to experience the Welsh culture and traditions during Welsh week. We made cawl at the start of the week and encouraged the children to attempt peeling and cutting the vegetables for the cawl and follow a recipe. The children were very excited to taste the cawl in the afternoon and discuss their likes and dislikes in Welsh. The children had decided at the start of the week that they wanted to learn more Welsh names for animals so we provided the children with an opportunity to play snap with the animals in Welsh. On St David’s Day the children enjoyed hearing the story of St David and participating in the eisteddfod. We sang two songs about the animals on the farm in Welsh and the children enjoyed wearing their Welsh costumes and talking about them. Throughout the week the children were encouraged to learn about the Welsh culture in the provision. The children had the opportunity to buy Welsh food in the food van or shop, paint daffodils and find the scales in the tuff spot to place on the dragon. In our Forest School session the children were very excited to help find the Welsh dragon who had escaped from the flag and put it back together on the flag which introduced some whole class problem solving.
