Year Two have had a HOOT this term working on the novel ‘The Owl who was afraid of the dark’ The children found out lots about the main character ‘Plop’ a baby barn owl who was afraid of the dark. During Personal and Social Development, the children discussed times they had been afraid of something and how they had overcome their fears.
The children found out about nocturnal animals and practised their oracy presentation skills delivering the information to the class. Pupils have enjoyed learning how to draw a barn owl and had fun completing observational drawings of different owls.
After reading the first four chapters and finding out about the dark, the children used their prediction skills to plan and write their own new chapter for the book. The pupils loved using the i-pads and mac books to research lots of interesting information about barn owls. Using this information they were able to create their very own information leaflet all about barn owls. The children worked together to develop their ICT skills using the book creator app on the i-pads to make their own i-books about various owls.
