Rights Respecting School
Right of the Month - September

Take a look at our calendar for our Rights and Values for each month
Clarks /Unicef Shoeshare Scheme
In December as part of our value on empathy and thinking of others our Rights Champions and Ambassadors asked for shoe donations to take part in the Clarks /Unicef shoeshare scheme. Shoes donated will be used to raise money to send pupils to school in developing countries and to enable these schools and pupils to have school supplies. Over 200 pairs of shoes were kindly donated by our school community. Diolch pawb - thank you for supporting our Champions with this worthwhile cause.
Super Ambassador Training
In October two of our Rights Champion Ambassadors were chosen to attend Super Ambassador training at Margam Park. The training was led by Sally Holland, the Children's Commissioner for Wales and her team. It was a very informative and enjoyable day and our ambassadors enjoyed feeding back information on the Commisioners special missions to the rest of our group. Look out for more information on these challenges and tasks!
Pupil Voice Week 2018
As part of our work on article 12 'The right to be heard and listened to', our Rights Champions went and spoke to pupils about different suggestions that they felt could make our school even better! Pupils ideas were listened to and our Rights Champions feedback information to our school council and leaders. Following on from this week, pupils are now enjoying playing with new playground equipment kindly funded by the PTFA.
Judging Class Charters
At the start of the academic year our Rights Champions and Ambassadors judged the winning class charter. It was a very hard decision but the team looked carefully for the charter that met their targeted criteria.
Here are some example of the lovely class charters that are in our school:
Congratulations to Year 3 Mrs Lockley's Class who were awarded the winning class charter!
Promoting Children's Rights in the Local Community of Pontarddulais
Our Rights Respecting Ambassadors and Champions planned a visit to local places that looked after and catered for children to highlight the importance of children's rights. Our pupils had a very busy time visiting locals at Pontarddulais Library, Tesco's, pharmacy. local community church and doctors surgery.
