    Pontarddulais Cluster Schools

    Pontarddulais Comprehensive, Llangyfelach Primary, Pengelli Primary,

    Penllergaer Primary, Pontarddulais Primary, Pontlliw Primary

    20th March 2020

    Dear Parents / Annwyl Rhieni,

    Thank you for your patience and support in these unprecedented times. All schools across Swansea are closed from 3.20pm Friday 20th March. Government information is changing rapidly. Our Local Authority is working tirelessly to guide schools during this repurposing phase. This is a national crisis. There is a recognition that schools are crucial to the National Strategy, and all school staff are very much valued as essential workers.

    The Local Authority emergency strategy board meets daily and clusters have been asked to work collaboratively to provide central hubs as childcare for essential workers. We are aware that the Government has issued a list of essential workers.However, at this stage our schools, catering and cleaning services do not have the capacity to support the full Government essential workers criteria. Therefore, the Local Authority are offering a phased approach to free childcare for children aged 3-14 year old starting with:

    • Blue Light / emergency services;
    • NHS frontline workers;
    • prison officers;
    • Primary / Secondary school staff;
    • private, public social care workers.

    In the first instance if both parents, or a single parent, are essential workers they can access this service. These parents will be contacted today by their individual schools and given further details. From Monday 23rd March 2020, there will be 2 hubs for identified pupils within the Pontarddulais cluster. They will be located at Pontarddulais Primary School and Pontarddulais Comprehensive School. All identified Year 5 and 6 and secondary school pupils within our cluster will attend Pontarddulais Comprehensive School and all other identified Primary School pupils will attend Pontarddulais Primary School.

    All available staff from the cluster schools will be deployed to the hub schools on a rota basis.  The cluster felt that due to the potential for longer term school closure, Year 5 and 6 attending Pontarddulais Comprehensive School would be more appropriate and aid transition.

    The next phase of the repurposing of schools will look at vulnerable pupils and pupils entitled to free school meals. Further details will be communicated as more information and resources become available.

    Please note that individual schools will have their own communication system and they will be using this to keep you informed of any changes.

    Please do not send your child to any school or the hub schools on Monday 23rd March if you have not been contacted by your school.

    Thank you for your continued support during these unique times.

    Yours faithfully,

    Pontarddulais Cluster Headteachers

  • Dylan Thomas Day

    Thu 19 Mar 2020

    As part of this year’s International Dylan Thomas Day, which is celebrated on 14 May each year, DylanED is inviting primary schools to take part in a very special competition.

    The competition, which is entitled ‘My Favourite Dream’ is based around Dylan Thomas' story A Visit to Grandpa's.

    Following in the footsteps of Swansea’s foremost writer and storyteller, the competition will look for pupils aged 8-11 to submit a short story (100 words), poem or picture of their own favourite dream.

    With the aid of a professional actor who will come to your school for FREE during March and April – your class will see and hear Dylan’s story magically retold, capturing their imaginations and providing them with the perfect inspiration.

    Entries must be received by Friday 1st May

    Competition winners will receive a number of goodies including a trophy, framed copy of their work, goody bag and books for the school library. Selected entries will also feature in an online exhibition.

    If you are interested in your class taking part please call me on (01792) 604808 or email: m.t.hughes@swansea.ac.uk

  • Letter from the Headteacher

    Tue 17 Mar 2020

    Information

    17th March 2020

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

    There is clearly a growing national concern regarding COVI-19 and this is a challenging time for us all. We are in regular contact with local authority officials and are following the advice given to us in how to control the situation within the school setting. We will continue to communicate with you on a regular basis to keep all parents informed of any developments.

    Here is a summary of our current situation: -

    The school remains open, but we have made some sensible adjustments to our daily arrangements. We have cancelled assemblies for now to minimise large gatherings.

    Pupils are encouraged to wash their hands regularly.
    All extra-curricular clubs and trips will now be cancelled until further notice.

    Parents evenings will be postponed for a later date. Invitations will be sent out when the situation becomes more stable.

    Swimming lessons will also be postponed until further notice. Book Club will not be open after school today.

    FOR GUIDANCE: -
    Children with symptoms (high temperature and/or persistent cough) to stay at home

    and self-isolate for 14 days.

    Children where anyone has symptoms in the home to stay home and self-isolate for 14 days.

    These are worrying times but the health of all members of our school is vitally important and I want to assure all parents that we are doing our very best to ensure that all pupils are safe within our school.

    Thank you for your continued support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mr G. L. Davies Headteacher
