Professional Learning School/ERW Research School

We have been a Professional Learning school for a number of years, conducting a series of cycles of enquiry working in partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University and lately with University of Wales Trinity Saint David. We are currently working on the NPEP [Cycle 4]-The National Professional Enquiry Project.

Our current cycle of enquiry NPEP/Cycle 4 involves the pupils in the process. They have followed the research processes we developed as a school during Cycle 1, 2 and 3. The children have identified a need to develop Health and Wellbeing/mindfulness during playtimes and who better to conduct an enquiry into playtimes than the children!

The children have researched a number of different research papers/journals and research results from a number of different Health organisations studies. They have also gathered information from our staff and children through 'Forms' questionnaires, focus group discussions and photo tours. The children have presented their findings to date to a number of different audiences: our teachers during a staff meeting, school governors, our Health and Wellbeing PLC and UWTSD Students during their Electives experience. We are hoping to present to UWTSD, ERW and Welsh Government during at a Pioneer School event.

We are extremely proud of the research work conducted to support the New Curriculum for Wales and to implement change in our school!
