Post 16 Transition
When moving from one setting to another, planning the move carefully is vital.
When thinking about going to sixth form (key stage 3) or college, planning for the new move should allow enough time for your support to continue when starting a new setting. Usually meetings take place a year before you move so everyone is aware of your needs and aspirations. Schools will share information with sixth form / college to support the young person and make this process as easy as possible.
How will the college and sixth form know about my needs?
Secondary ALNCOs / transition officers from college and sixth form should be invited to transition pupil centred reviews (PCRs) typically in year 9 / 10.
What support will I get in sixth form or college?
The support you will get really depends on your needs. Any support you have had in secondary school should continue if it is still appropriate. If this is something that concerns you, please contact the sixth form or college before applying. They will talk to you about options and how you could be supported.
