Sixth Forms

When you reach 16 you may wish to attend sixth form. Sixth forms can be attached to comprehensive schools and continue the learner's education up until 18 years old.

The following schools in Swansea offer sixth form as part of their provision:

Bishop Gore Comprehensive School

Bishop Vaughan Catholic Comprehensive School

Cefn Hengoed Community School

Dylan Thomas Community School

Morriston Comprehensive School

Olchfa School

Ysgol Gyfun Bryn Tawe

Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr

Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn

Please contact the school if you wish to visit.

How do I apply to get a place at sixth form?

If you wish to apply for sixth form, you can apply for a place at one of the Swansea schools listed above in the spring term prior to you seeking a place for the following September. Detailed admission arrangements to sixth form can be found here.

If you wish to attend Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn sixth form, you will need to speak to your current school in year 9 and 10 to see if this is an option. All special school placements are decided by the council, your current school will need to apply for you to attend if it is appropriate.

How will I know if I have a place?

The school will contact you to let you know. You may need certain grades to attend but the school will confirm this.

If you have a place at Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn, the council's ALN case worker will be able to feed this back to you following a multi-agency panel meeting.

Who is involved in a multi-agency panel?

A multi-agency panel is made up of council officer, headteachers, ALNCos, speech and language therapists, specialist teachers, social workers, educational psychologists and SNAP Cymru. They work together to look at the information which has been shared to make recommendations regarding provision and support.

How will they support my additional learning needs?

The school will be invited to attend a Person Centred Review, where you can share your views and thoughts before attending. They will look at any support you have in place at your current school and will discuss with you what is needed in sixth form. There will be a period of transition before starting there and your support should be in place from when you start.
