Disagree with the School Decision

When you disagree with the school / college decision regarding Additional Learning Needs and / provision.

It is essential that you speak to the school / college as early as possible. You can speak to the class teacher, the ALNCo or the headteacher and they will work with you to try to resolve any issues. This should provide an opportunity for matters to be addressed and resolved promptly and prevent disagreements from escalating.

I have spoken to the school / college and need more help. Who do I contact?

If you are still unhappy with the decision, you can request support from the ALN Caseworker team. The Caseworkers work collaboratively bringing together children, young people, parents / carers and professionals through a person centred approach to seek to achieve the best outcomes for learners. They provide information, advice and guidance to everybody in an open, honest and transparent way. The Caseworkers can be contacted via email at caseworker@swansea.gov.uk.

I need more support to get my views across who can help?

Independent Advocacy can be made available to children and young people to help them express / represent their views, wishes and feelings.

This may be due to the child / young person:

  • Taking part in, or intending to take part in arranging for avoiding or resolving disagreement.
  • Making, or intending to appeal to tribunal.
  • Considering whether to appeal to the tribunal.

How do I arrange advocacy?

Advocacy for children and young people can be accessed via the ALN Caseworker team.
