Road Safety - JRSO's
Mon 22 May 2017The JRSO’s (Junior Road Safety Officers) have been extremely busy throughout the year, working hard and learning how to stay safe on the road. Unfortunately they didn’t make it through to the Swansea semi-finals of the annual Road Safety Quiz this year, but their assembly for both Key stages to highlight Road Safety was fantastic! They have represented the school to the best of their ability and have made every effort to raise awareness of Road Safety within the school throughout the year. A sterling effort by our team!
They have set competitions; liaised with ‘Kerbcraft’ and worked really hard to teach the school how important it is to stay safe on the roads. We also had a fabulous visit from a ‘Road safety’ workshop arranged by the Road Safety department in County. It was a show full of music, dancing, singing and more importantly an important message of how to stay safe on the roads, whether your walking, cycling or in a car. -
Summer Fayre
Mon 22 May 2017The Year 6 children made games for the annual Pontarddulais Primary Summer Fayre. They had the least amount of time they’ve ever had to prepare (it’s hard being in Year 6!) but created some fantastic, creative games! They worked in friendship groups on the project. They planned, designed, evaluated and made their games out of different materials. There was a fantastic range of very clever games for the general public to play. They behaved extremely well, were extremely polite and well-mannered and raised a lot of money for the school. The children gain so much from this activity and all of their key skills are focused upon and developed. Some of them should consider going on ‘Dragon’s Den’ to see if they can secure an investment! -
London Trip
Mon 22 May 2017Well, we ‘kept calm and carried on’ this year and went on our annual London trip. We arranged a ‘jam-packed’ itinerary that ensured the children would experience as much as we could pack in within two days! We took a ‘flight’ on the London Eye, attended the 4D cinema extravaganzas, entered the ‘Shrek experience’ where they got ‘up close and personal’ with the world of Shrek, stayed in the Copthorne four star hotel in Slough no less, ate in ‘Pizza Express’, ‘entered the world of a Wimpy kid’, then we went to Legoland; which was AWESOME!!! We arrived home happy, tired and late on the Friday night! The children behaved really well and we were extremely pleased to arrive back safe and sound. We received so many compliments from members of the public about the children’s’ exemplary behaviour. Here’s to next year!! -
Paul Rees - Cricket
Mon 22 May 2017Every Summer term Year 6 is lucky enough to participate in a 7 week cricket programme with an experienced coach – Paul Rees. These sessions focus on throwing and catching skills, and batting techniques. A fabulous opportunity for community links to be fostered and developed and for the children to further develop their skills. These sessions have undoubtedly helped the cricket team win many competitions and get through to the finals in Cardiff. -
Bont Buddies
Mon 22 May 2017Each year as part of the transition programme with Pontarddulais Comprehensive, the Year 9 ‘Bont buddies’ come to Year 6 to show a presentation and discuss worries and concerns with the children about their move to the comprehensive. This is a very good opportunity to allay fears and affects their well-being in a very positive way -
Sport-Foundation Phase
Mon 22 May 2017The children in Foundation Phase have been continuing to develop their physical and creative skills through their P.E. sessions by working together in small groups and looking for ways to improve their performance. They have also been spending a lot of time in the outdoor area where there is more space to run and explore.
