Reading:

  • Please encourage your child to read regularly at home. Reading with children in their early years is crucial because it builds a foundation for their language acquisition, cognitive development and literacy skills.  reading enhances vocabulary, comprehension, and concentration while also fostering imagination, empathy and a lifelong love of learning.
  • Please write in their reading record, regular communication between school and home will help them to make good progress with their reading skills.
  • Looking at the pictures in books and discussing what they can see and responding to questions asked, is also an important part of their reading journey.

Handwriting:

  • In Reception we begin working on our letter formation and mark making skills. Please practice this regularly at home. If you require any support with this then contact your child’s teacher.

Please ensure your child has a pair of wellies in school to use during their forest school sessions.  They can come to school on Tuesdays wearing joggers and suitable warm clothing for outdoor sessions.  They will need to bring a coat that is suitable for the weather conditions.
  • We will also access outdoor learning every Friday.
